SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
Abstract
The economic level of people, in terms of purchasing power, is directly related to the per capita production of waste. This factor is also related to the current mode of production, which stimulates the consumption and production of materials with an increasingly short life span. The inadequate treatment of waste has caused very negative environmental impacts, although in Brazil there is a very advanced and complete legislation on the management of solid waste, law 10.305/2010, which created the National Policy on Solid Waste, PNRS. The essence of the waste management process must be linked to the sensitization of generating sources, not only as static generating sources, but as dynamic individuals (and social groups). Thus, the present work aims to reflect on the importance of environmental education applied to solid waste management. To this end, a literature review was carried out based on a search in the database of the Scientific Electronic Library (Scielo), online, from 2018 to 2022, with the descriptors “solid waste” and "environmental education". Wefound 60 articles, of which 12 were selected. The exclusion criteria were articles outside the theme of the descriptors and the inclusion criteria were articles that reported municipal experiences of solid waste management and environmental education. It was concluded that the environmental management of solid waste will only be efficient if together Environmental Education programs are implemented, which have as a principle the reduction of consumption and, subsequently, the requalification of waste for the consequent reuse / reuse.
